If you have lost teeth because of an accident, injury, poor dental care, or age, you may think your only option is getting a set of false teeth. That simply isn't true; you have more cosmetic dentistry options than you may think to replace your missing teeth. One of those options is a dental implant. Dental implants are a permanent solution to your problem and they have many benefits.
Cosmetic dentistry has advanced considerably and people no longer are stuck with dentures when they have missing teeth. Dental implants are permanent you do not have to take them out and clean them. A dental implant is a titanium post that is placed directly into your jawbone. On that titanium post a false tooth is screwed.
The false teeth that are screwed onto your dental implants have all the functionality of your natural teeth. They are natural looking, stable and secure. In fact, they are far more natural looking than a denture or bridge. You brush them and care for them just as you would a normal tooth.
Dental implants are surgically placed, so getting a dental implant isn't an overnight procedure. In fact, to get a dental implant you will most likely require two surgical procedures. First, the jawbone will be prepared by placing the titanium post into your jaw. During the second procedure, the false tooth is screwed onto the titanium post.
When you have had both surgical procedures there is a healing period in which your body may reject your dental implant. During this period your cosmetic dentist will check the implant site regularly to make sure the implant is integrating with your jawbone. Your dentist may recommend that you restrict certain foods and eat a diet of soft foods until the implant site is healed. Once the dental implant is fully integrated and healed, you can go about life as normal.
